The transformation of a family home that went from plain disrepair to a sleek, coral oasis.
It was early Fall in Houston when Jon and Mary bought this house in a desirable part of Houston known as Ashfordbrook. When they first pulled up to the house, it was hard to tell how much would be needed simply because the trees and hedges around the home were sufficiently overgrown to block the view of the house. After a walkthrough, the team pulled together a punch list of repairs which included issues ranging from exterior siding damage, foundation issues, and dated interiors. As Jon and Mary created a budget for repairs, they decided to completely transform the main floor. The kitchen would be renovated to include all new flooring and appliances. New flooring would continue throughout the ground level, with new carpets in the bedrooms too. The house had a fantastic but dated staircase leading up to a loft space upstairs. They decided to modernize the staircase to match rest of the décor. That and a refaced fireplace would make for a stunning entry for anyone walking in to this home.

In terms of construction improvements, Jon and his team started by fixing the foundation and taking on structural repairs. After major foundation repairs were completed, it was discovered that the fireplace had come off the wall, essentially creating a hazard in the home. Upon seeing this, Mary came up with a plan to tile the fireplace, changing the dimensions, making it safer, and giving it a whole new, polished look.
The next improvement came with the staircase. As a big focal point in the house, the couple decided to go with a modern contemporary cable railing and keep the original treads. The result was incredible. The house that once looked in dire need of TLC was transformed into a beautiful oasis of a home.
Styling the Oasis
When it came to styling the interiors, Mary chose to go with a trendy but classic coral and grey theme. The fireplace tile, the living room furniture, and the rest of the décor brought the whole look together perfectly. The kitchen was finished off with new cabinets and appliances as well as an
original herringbone backsplash tile. The newly modernized staircase led to a unique loft space complete with a gorgeous geometric wall mosaic painting and a fun hanging swing.

The bathrooms and bedrooms also saw major improvements and were finished off with new, modern light fixtures. In the end, this house stood out to everyone because of the incredible amount of natural light, the modern look of finishings, and the beautiful color scheme that transformed a once drab house into this new serene, coral oasis.
